18 August 2010 - No Delta18RF (Roundup Ready Flex) available for the coming planting season – There will be no Delta18RF (Roundup Ready Flex) cotton available in the market for the coming planting season. Monsanto DeltaPine will not make any seed available as quality tests indicated that the quality of the seed does not adhere to the stringent quality requirements set by Monsanto.
June 2010 - Pollination Variation Problem in Maize Solved – Research conducted during the past season, 2009/10, by representatives and agronomists of Monsanto into pollination variations in experienced last season proved beyond doubt that the pollination variations was a genetic deviation that occurred when the parent lines were reversed. The problem has been solved and seed of the DKC78-45BR, one of the most popular cultivars on the market, will again be available for the 2010/2011 season.

4 June 2009 - Constitutional Court hearing – In August 2002, the Biowatch Trust, a non-governmental organisation, launched court proceedings in the High Court, demanding access to a very broad range of information held by the Registrar of Genetic Resources. Biowatch’s request for information was framed extremely broadly and did not identify specific information sought by Biowatch.

October, 2008 - Maize producers to prepare themselves for farm inspections – Crop biotechnology brought a new dimension into grain production. Gene characteristics such as herbicide resistance or Roundup Ready® crops, stalk borer protection or YieldGard®-crops, have been available over the past couple of years in South Africa in crops such as cotton, soya beans and maize. This technology does not only increase yields, but also gives the producer added benefits with regard to management and environmental practices.

This completes a process which was started with the Monsanto announcement in October 2007 of the intention by Monsanto to exit wheat in South Africa.

March, 2007 -Monsanto is launching a new online Weed Resistance Risk Assessment Program In line with its commitment to product stewardship, Monsanto is launching a new online Weed Resistance Risk Assessment Program for growers who use Roundup Ready weed control technology. Located on the Web at www.weedtool.com, the one-of-a-kind risk assessment program was created to help farmers gauge the risk of developing glyphosate-resistant weeds in their fields. In addition, it offers best farming practices to manage those risks without limiting yield potential.

Kobus Steenekamp will become responsible for both Agchem and Biotechnology Marketing in the position of Africa Agchem and Biotechnology Marketing Lead, effective from 1 September 2006.
August, 2006 -GM Maize Pushes Up Yields A Free State farmer has netted an extra R1 million profit, thanks to the higher yields reaped by planting Bt maize. He is Theunis Pretorius, who farms with his brother Gerrit on their family farm, Smalfontein, at Ficksburg.

December, 2005 - Monsanto makes available hybrid seed for 140 000 farm families in Malawi . Monsanto announced today its decision to donate 700 metric tons of quality hybrid maize seeds in Malawi, an equivalent donation of $840,000.
November, 2005 - Monsanto Director the 2005 Agriculturist of the Year. Kobus Lindeque, Africa Director of Monsanto was recently recognised for his contribution to the advancement and understanding of biotechnology as was announced as the 2005 Agriculturist of the year by the Agricltural Writers Assocation of South Africa.
