No Delta18RF (Roundup Ready Flex) available for the coming planting season
There will be no Delta18RF (Roundup Ready Flex) cotton available in the market for the coming planting season. Monsanto DeltaPine will not make any seed available as quality tests indicated that the quality of the seed does not adhere to the stringent quality requirements set by Monsanto.
According to Maryke Stanton, Sales Manager Cotton, the continuous rain during the beginning of this year in the cotton production areas negatively impacted on the quality of the cotton seed produced.
Delta18RF – one of the new generation Roundup Ready Flex varieties from Deltapine, would have been used for the planting of the 5 % refuge areas required when planting stack gene cotton.
Monsanto now propose that producers use the well-known DeltaOpalRR for the planting of the refuge area when planting stack gene cotton. It ism however, important that producers take cognizance of the fact that the area planted DeltaOpal RR can only by sprayed over the top with glyphosate between the two-leaf and the four-leaf stage.
The new stack gene products which contain the new gene, Delta12BRF and DP210BRF, can be sprayed with Roundup Ready Plus (glyphosate) until two weeks prior to harvest. It is quite important the farmers remember that the area planted to DeltaOpal RR has a window period which means that they can spray over the top with glyphosate between the two-leaf and the four-leaf stage whereafter they have to apply a directed spray.
