Roundup Ready Corn 2

September, 2005 - Earlier this year it was decided that Monsanto needed to change the Roundup Ready Maize brand in South Africa to Roundup Ready Corn 2 so as to avoid confusion between the GA21 and NK603 events.

GA21, marketed in the USA, and approved for import into the EU is known as Roundup Ready Corn. Now that NK603 is approved for import into the EU, Monsanto needed to distinguish between the two events to avoid confusion amongst regulators and grain traders and called the NK603 event, Roundup Ready Corn 2.

From a South African standpoint, Monsanto has only ever had NK603 commercialised, this was branded as "Roundup Ready Maize" (RR Maize), and now to conform globally, Monsanto will change the brand to RR Corn 2. This is not a new event, but merely a brand name change.

In future all advertorials, statements to the media, notification at farmer's days, seed packaging and catalogues, and advertising will carry the new brand name, RR Corn 2. This will also be done by all licensees in South Africa, viz. Pioneer and Pannar. There will be a transition period in which both logo's (brands) will be used.
