Nitrogen Requirement
Let us look at the influence of conservation, and the change in soil fertility practices. Crops under no-till have a higher N requirement and yields are equal to, or greater than, that of conventional tillage under higher N levels. One of the reasons is that under no-till there may be lower N mineralisation due to lower temperatures and higher moisture conditions linked to higher immobilisation because of higher residue in surface layer, which leads to a slower but more uniform pattern of N mineralisation over the season.
