Monsanto's biotechnology products, namely Bollgard, YieldGard, Roundup Ready Cotton, Roundup Ready Soya and Roundup Ready Maize, are all protected by patents both globally and in South Africa, and are made available to growers who wish to use them through a technology licensing agreement.

Monsanto's biotech products reflect the latest innovations in modern agriculture and we are justifiably proud of them. Through a programme of product stewardship, new products are tested under local conditions for suitability. Those found suitable are then registered with the relevant authorities in terms of South African legislation, and only then made available to growers to assist them in producing a commercial crop. Once our products are "in the market", they are continually monitored to ensure that they deliver the advantages that they have been developed for. This monitoring includes a programme of annual trials, which are shown to growers at farmers days. Competent agronomists investigate all reported complaints, and our global team of researchers is also available to support each product. Where conditions of use change, Monsanto's team of product managers, developers and experts act pro-actively to ensure that products continue to deliver expected outcomes. This is particularly relevant to the biotechnology products, where both weed and insect resistance management programmes are in place.
